Dear Crestone Eagle,
I am writing in support of Commissioner Thomas McCracken for reelection as Saguache County Commissioner. I told Adam Kinney that I would be glad to support him in 2028.
Commissioner McCracken led the charge, not only in our home county, but with all six counties of the SLV to restore the Council of Governments (COG) to use as the vehicle to name our aquifer as an area of state interest.
He then presided as the chair of the COG to work with others to gather all municipalities and counties into an historic interagency agreement to put a moratorium on all water export projects until every jurisdiction could put their 1041 regulations in place. As a project steward of the community food and ag assessment and planning project — the fear of water export was top of mind for SLV producers in barriers to future sustainability of their farms and ranches.
Commissioner McCracken has a deep understanding of water and the hydrology of our unique and complicated water system here. He has fought for food access and housing, trails, recycling, renewable energy and looking at agriculture in a new way utilizing crops that consume less water rather than the current dry-up we are practicing.
Becoming a county commissioner has a deep learning curve. I urge you to support a commissioner who has undergone that deep learning curve and has a large capacity to serve us well.
Sincerely
Liza Marron
