McCracken for commissioner

Editor’s note: The primary election is June 25. The Eagle will post results to The Crestone Eagle website as soon as they are available. This is the last set of endorsements received by press time presented in alternating endorsements.

Dear Community,

Experience counts! Leadership counts! Protecting valley water counts! Healthy, locally produced counts!

Those are my top reasons for supporting County Commissioner Tom McCracken’s re-election in the upcoming Democratic primary. Commissioner McCracken has racked up an impressive list of accomplishments for we the people, Saguache County and the entire San Luis Valley. His leadership to protect Valley water with the creation of an innovative six-county intergovernmental agreement is reason enough to support his re-election. Tom is an organic farmer who advocates for local producers and has called upon the CSU Extension Service to test the potential for less water-consumptive crops such as millet and legumes. He’s my kind of “Feed the people, build the soil, support the local economy, care for the Earth” kind of guy.

McCracken is tireless in his work, bringing single stream recycling to the county’s landfill, focusing on infrastructure needs and expanding local services such as senior meals and transportation. He’s a leader not just for Saguache County, but also for the SLV as seen in his work with Eastern SLV Trails Coalition on the safe routes to school, Kiosk Connection Trail and Baca Nature and Heritage Trail projects.

I hope you’ll join me and vote to re-elect Tom McCracken to build on the accomplishments of his first term and to be a strong advocate for important issues facing the county today: affordable housing incorporating passive solar design and the use of local materials; new jail and courthouse facility; clean-up and redevelopment of the White Eagle Village property; updating the county’s master plan; continuing to lobby for the Closed Basin Project to be honest and transparent; and expanding the Sangre de Cristo Wilderness.

Let’s keep Saguache County moving forward by voting for Tom McCracken in the June 25 Democratic Primary!

Thanks,

Cindy Reinhardt
