Merc break-in captured on video, suspect nabbed

By Matt Lit

A late-night break in at the Crestone Mercantile in March was captured on video giving law enforcement clues for a suspect. That person was later arrested.

Peace Patrol’s Michael Fulcher noticed the front door glass smashed the morning of March 16. Owner Matthew Johnson also reported the damage to the Sheriff’s Office.

One day later, with information the suspect was staying at the Bliss Inn, three blocks away, deputies along with Sheriff Dan Warwick contacted the suspect. The suspect, Chase Jordan Quintana, of Lakewood, CO., was arrested without incident, according to deputy reports.

In one of the arrest reports Quintana said he did it because he was hungry and had not eaten in a while.

Roughly $70 worth of random food was stolen. Additionally, Johnson estimated the cost of repairs ran almost $2,000.

It is not known if the suspect is still in custody. The Crestone Eagle was unable to obtain an official sheriff’s office update at press time.
