Restorative Hatha Yoga

Restorative yoga, also called gentle yoga, is a style of yoga designed to relax, restore, and rejuvenate the body, mind, and spirit. Restorative yoga falls under the umbrella of hatha yoga, an ancient form of yoga with origins in India, which is intended to stretch and strengthen the physical body in preparation for seated meditation. In this class, we combine the restorative and traditional hatha styles of yoga using pranayama (breathwork), dhyana (meditation), asana (posture), and sometimes mantra (word or sound) to relax the body and mind, regulate the nervous system, and release physical, mental, emotional, and energetic tension. The versatile use of yoga props such as blocks, straps, bolsters, and blankets is encouraged and demonstrated in order to cultivate comfort and proper alignment throughout the practice. Some mats and props will be provided by the instructor and the student is welcome to bring their own for personal use. This class is suitable for all ages (over 16) and levels – from those who are new to yoga to experienced practitioners.
