The phone policy in CCS has been a major topic throughout previous months of the school year. Earlier in January there was a discussion about the phone policy throughout the school, particularly for high school and middle school students.

In the January CCS Eaglet an informal survey of students and teachers indicated mixed responses, including that many students ignore teachers when told to put their phones away. Since then, there have been revisions in the policy.

According to the official cell phone policy adopted in January 2024: In order to support student learning, cell phones are not allowed in any class. Phones must be out of sight in student cubbies or backpacks.

Cell phone use may be allowed during class (core classes & mentorships) but only if the teacher/mentor gives explicit permission. For example, taking photos of notes or filming video projects. Students are only allowed to access their phones at the beginning and end of school, during breaks between classes and at lunch. Students may not use phones as calculators since they have access to calculators in Math class. Students have access to Chromebooks for other digital needs.

Parents should call the front office if immediate communication with their student is necessary. Students will have access to their phones nearly every hour during breaks.
