Shorter weeks for ‘24-‘25

By Sequoia Sirois.

Crestone Charter School students will return this fall semester with a big change. In February the CCS governing council approved a four-day school week.

Results from a spring-semester survey about the four-day versus five-day school week indicated a preference for the shorter school week from parents and teachers. Recently, Thomas Cleary, the primary director of the Crestone Charter School (CCS) sent out a survey about a new plan for the 2024 school week.

The survey was sent by email in February to all parents and staff asking if they support the idea of changing from a five-day school week to four-day schedule. If the four-day schedule is approved, it would take effect in the 2024-2025 school year.

Of the respondents only five people did not express support for the four-day school week. That’s compared to almost 31 respondents who support the idea.

“I feel that this change to a 4-day school week will be very good for the academic improvement going forward,” said Cleary. “Our school is the only school in the district who doesn’t have a four-day school week.” He added, “I also think this new schedule will be a hard but good change for all students, staff, and parents going forward.”
