Support for Festivals

Dear community,

I am writing in support of festivals in the town of Crestone with amplified music. I believe that the town trustees and the mayor considering the proposal to remove festivals with amplified music is a huge mistake that will lead to development of the Crestone ghost town.

The festivals bring San Luis Valley residents, create a sense of community, and give the tourists something to do. Whether local or visitor, they need to eat, sleep, and drink. This brings in revenue to the area businesses along with increased sales tax to the town coffers.

Given the Town of Crestone’s financial straits, the stewards of this town have no business reducing potential revenue.

My cousin from Kansas has visited the Energy Fair for the last two years. Last year his fiancée scheduled her trip from Australia to coincide with the Energy Fair so that they may attend. The sense of community created by the music and dancing at the Fourth of July is tremendous. The amplified music at Feed the People adds a fun touch.

I believe that for a few times a year, amplified music and bands should be allowed to use the beautiful stage in our park for the community’s benefit.

Thank you for this opportunity to express myself.
