Weir for commissioner

Editor’s note: Some of the claims in this letter regarding Constitutional rights are the opinion of the writer and not that of The Crestone Eagle

Marcus Weir hopes to bring much needed balance to the Saguache County Board of Commissioners and a common-sense approach to tough issues we all face. Weir has been a resident of the Baca Grande since 2019. He is running on a Republican platform of a “common sense approach to serious issues affecting all the citizens of Saguache County.”

“The last four years have brought many changes and caused real concerns for the residents of our county,” Weir said. “As your commissioner, I will be focused on protecting and defending our Constitutional rights and following the principles and guidelines of the law of the land. My oath to the Constitution will never be violated by an official act I take as your commissioner.” Weir continued, “I will not sign anything I have not read or do not thoroughly understand. I will protect against creating hardships for residents through increased regulations and codes.”

Weir is not a politician. He became politically active after the passing of an emergency resolution in September 2021 by the Saguache County Board of Commissioners that essentially violated many constitutional rights. He was a major contributor to organizing a public protest to this document that clearly violated our Constitutional rights, which resulted in the rescinding of the resolution. According to Weir, our commissioners reported they did not actually read what they had approved in this ill-fated Act.

Weir believes we need more transparency and public input in any upcoming changes coming from our county. He vows to remain accessible, be responsive and respectful to the people he serves. Weir is concerned about how the cost of living has increased significantly over the last four years and how inflation is affecting everyone. He is determined to find ways to support families, veterans and seniors and consider all ideas to better serve low-income folks in these tough times.

Some of the goals Weir intends to work toward include: Add balance to the board of commissioners; Create more transparency and opportunity for public input; Support less government waste and over-regulation; Represent the people of the county; Accountability in our schools; Support parental rights in our school system; Support small businesses.

A Marine veteran, it is important to Weir to support law enforcement and emergency services, promote and protect freedom, protect Constitutional rights and protect the community. Website: MarcusWeir24.com.
