Early Morning Fire in the Grants

A house fire in the Grants had crews from multiple departments responding to the early morning blaze. A page went out to Baca Fire at 4:55 a.m. for a structure fire in the Grants, near Camino Del Rey and Wagon Wheel.

A wood-sided 2-story house had visible flames in the roof/eaves and along the east side of the building when first responders arrived, according to reports from a Baca Fire representative.

Baca Fire was first on scene and quickly called in mutual aid from all resources in the Northern Saguache Fire District. The responding agencies were: Saguache Fire, Moffat Fire, Villa Grove-Bonanza Fire, and Crestone Fire. Due to inclement weather the response time was delayed. Chief Jim Vanderpool immediately put out a call for all resources valley-wide upon first laying eyes on the fire.

Emergency medical responders were also on scene. The Baca Ambulance was out on a different emergency call so the secondary Baca Ambulance crew arrived with the second ambulance. Saguache Ambulance also showed up and the Baca EMS crew that was already on a call moved straight to the fire upon leaving that scene.

Firefighters first attacked the interior putting out the blaze in the roof and attic. The fire was completely out by 8:30 a.m. and the homeowner was allowed to go back in at that time to retrieve personal items.

At this time the cause of the fire is not officially known, according to Baca Fire.
