McCracken

Editor’s note: The Crestone Eagle is running all letters of support it received for county commissioner candidate Adam Kinney and incumbent Tom McCracken as of press time. They are presented in no particular order.

To the editor,

Tom McCracken is winding up his fourth year as County Commissioner with a long list of accomplishments to his credit.  But his work is not finished, and I urge Saguache County voters to return him to office for a second term.

I especially value Commissioner McCracken’s deep-rooted concern for the environment, proven by his career as an organic farmer, as well as the projects he has spearheaded to protect our water and wilderness, as well as carbon-reducing low-housing design.

Specifically, he has:

Advocated for solar panels to be installed at the County Affordable Housing Project “Blue Waters” which were installed at no cost to the county.

Through his work with the SLV Council of Governments, all six counties of the SLV have entered into an intergovernmental agreement to work together through a joint planning board to examine water export proposals.

Advocated for the planning commission to update the County Master Plan, and to include climate action plans as well as firm guidance on subdividing properties to lots under 35 acres.

McCracken represents and shows concern for all segments of our county:  children, seniors, low-income, as well as farmers and ranchers.

He has certainly not forgotten his immediate constituency of Crestone and the Baca Grande, bringing our roads up to a decent standard; extending Chaffee shuttle to Crestone; spearheading creation of safe, off-road paths (currently under construction), from the Baca to the Crestone Charter School; bringing meals for seniors to Crestone; and continuing efforts to clean up the White Eagle Village and restore it as a useful resource.

Some of his important future projects include construction of a new county courthouse complex, as well as a new jail for the county.  These are in the beginning stages and need his experience in order to progress.

Tom McCracken is a dedicated, hard-working, and responsive commissioner for all of Saguache County.  Let’s give him the chance to bring his ambitious goals to completion.

Vote McCracken in the primary election on June 25!
