Paint party helps Food Bank get ready for opening

By Eden Elderberry

The Food Bank painting party on Saturday, Oct. 21 brought in 11 volunteers to repair and paint the walls of its new location on County Road T. The new space—adjacent to the Baca Grande Library—will serve as the Crestone Food Bank. A few more improvements are needed before it can open.

Volunteer Joe Eskew, who led the party, plans on finishing the job by the end of the month or sooner. After the painting is finished, a new floor will have to be laid before freezers can be brought in. The Community Collective run by Courtney “Crow” Carag and Jules Carag are seeking vinyl planks for the floor in order to get this stage of the project finished.

They are also organizing the Thanksgiving Box Giveaway, in the parking lot between the new location and Baca Grande Library (67487 County Rd T). Sign-ups for the boxes were available until Oct. 18 and the pickup of these will be Nov. 18 at 1 p.m.

The food bank will be requesting volunteers at opening and details and dates will be announced in the future. Contact Courtney Carag at 720-663-7194, or stop by the library and talk to Eden Elderberry.
