Letters to the Editor

Cease Spinning in Old Turf

I must agree with Beth Kinney’s Gun Safety letter in the Valley Courier’s April 3, 2024 issue. Being a proponent of the Constitution of the United States, I believe its authors intended a purposeful interpretation of its words. As times change in America, so can the document make accommodations. Many constitutional enthusiasts consider this document as living, that it can adapt to the changes America encounters. This is done by ratifying amendments, examples of which are the amendments that gave blacks, women, and people 18 years and older the right to vote. The Second Amendment is an example in need of...

Six-county intergovernmental agreement (IGA) —

A unique collaboration I have a very exciting success to report that will help safeguard San Luis Valley (SLV) water for years to come. On Tuesday April 2, Saguache County finalized a process that has taken nearly two years to complete. The Saguache County Board of County Commissioners adopted 1041 Regulations that allow a Joint Planning Board to review Water Export applications from any jurisdiction in the Rio Grande Basin.  The six counties of the San Luis Valley have joined together in an intergovernmental agreement (IGA) to create a joint planning area of state interest, which is the aquifer and the...

Commentary: The cyclical nature of entropy and syntropy

By Heather D’Alessio and Nathan GoodeSolutionaries commentary IX Exploring the difference between a healthy evolutionary process that leads with syntropy rather than the age-old way of duality standing on pillars proclaiming one must have war to find peace is not a solution for us. One resolution is to embrace the polarity of these principles — accepting life and death, day and night and the process for cycling energies using bio-intelligence as well as spiritual frequency. Is our existence just to be and to be experienced? Why have we arrived in the company of a tough customer? Maybe a deep dive seeking...

McCracken

Editor’s note: The Crestone Eagle is running all letters of support it received for county commissioner candidate Adam Kinney and incumbent Tom McCracken as of press time. They are presented in no particular order. To the editor, Tom McCracken is winding up his fourth year as County Commissioner with a long list of accomplishments to his credit.  But his work is not finished, and I urge Saguache County voters to return him to office for a second term. I especially value Commissioner McCracken’s deep-rooted concern for the environment, proven by his career as an organic farmer, as well as the projects he...

Editor’s note: The Crestone Eagle is running all letters of support it received for county commissioner candidate Adam Kinney and incumbent Tom McCracken as of press time. They are presented in no particular order. To the editor, View from 30-year Crestone-Baca Grande residents: Tom McCracken has been an extraordinarily effective Saguache County Commissioner because of his lifetime of experience in water and land management, environmental protection, local governance and building collaborations. His local accomplishments are too numerous to mention. They include bringing Chaffee Shuttle Service to Crestone,  providing meals in Crestone through Southern Colorado Seniors, and maintaining select roads in the Baca to...
